The world's most powerful scientific microscope will be activated

Release date: 2013-08-07

Recently, the world's most powerful microscope has been installed, commissioned, and will be launched soon. The scientists and companies that have reserved the equipment have already set a long queue.
The scanning transmission electron holographic microscope weighs 7 tons, is 4.5 meters high, and has a resolution of 35 picometers (one meter of a meter), which is equivalent to 20 million times of normal human vision. It is the world's first microscope. . Previously, the microscope had a maximum resolution of 49 picometers and was located at the Lawrence National Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley. Hitachi, Japan, spent a year at the underground laboratory of a research center at the University of Victoria, assembling this ultra-high resolution, ultra-stable instrument.
Scientists working with Ballard on fuel cell research believe that the microscope opens up new horizons for fuel cell research. A local Vancouver-based company that produces high-resolution semiconductor radiation detectors (for baggage scanning and bomb detection) and cardiac nuclear medicine CT scans is also scheduled to conduct research and development on the microscope.
