Cervical cancer is caused by a persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV). If you can block the HPV virus infection, you can effectively prevent cervical cancer. Although HPV vaccines have been introduced in some developed countries, they are expensive, prevent a limited number of HPV subtypes, and are unable to clear established HPV persistent infections. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a specific antiviral means for targeting HPV infection.
In the previous study, Jiang Shibo and the Lu Lu team of researchers at the School of Basic Medicine of Fudan University found that a lactoglobulin modified by an acid anhydride, JB01, had a very strong anti-HPV virus infection effect in vitro. In clinical trials, the HPV infection rate of the treatment group using this biological protein dressing named "JB01" was as high as 60.5%, while the negative conversion rate of the control group was 13.5%.
This study demonstrates for the first time the effectiveness of anti-HPV-infected biologics in clinical applications, and is important for blocking the persistent infection of HPV and preventing the occurrence of cervical cancer.
