The first in the country! Xi'an woman undergoes robotic dental surgery

Recently, a woman became the first dental patient in China to complete oral surgery with a robotic surgeon. When the doctor performs an operation in the room, the robot automatically transplants the two teeth into the patient's mouth according to a pre-programmed procedure.

This technology was invented by the Wuhan University Stomatological Hospital and the Robotics Institute of Beihang University to solve the problem of rural dentist shortage and high frequency surgical errors.

The newspaper reported that about 400 million patients in China need new teeth.

Dental implants use 3D printing technology with an error control of 0.2 to 0.3 mm, which is in line with the error range of this type of surgery. The patient will do a CT scan first. The robot is pre-designed and they will perform the surgery according to the specific index, including the angle and depth of the implanted teeth. After testing, a woman from Xi'an (Shaanxi provincial capital) was treated with this technique under the control of an local anesthesiologist. The robot can make adjustments based on the tiny movements in the patient's own surgery.

According to reports, there are more than 15 million dental implants in the world each year. China is not the only country that introduces automatic dental technology.
