One of the latest product concepts comes from Yao Yi, a designer and entrepreneur. His company, FitSleep, is trying to enter the market with the new FitSleep α1. This product will launch Alpha Wave to us and we will sleep better.
FitSleep α1 is similar in many ways to other options available on the market. Like the Juvo sleep tracker, the FitSleep α1 is also equipped with sensors that capture user biometric data such as heart rate, breathing patterns, etc., so it can give the corresponding therapy (Juvo uses white noise and ambient light adjustment). Another product, Misfit, also monitors sleep by visualizing data and timelines. FitSleep α1 is also like Samsung's SleepSense. SleepSense measures sleep quality parameters, generates timeline reports, and plays soothing sounds.
The unique aspect of FitSleep is the use of Alpha Wave, which is said to allow users to quickly enter the deep sleep phase. Alpha wave is one of the brain waves that acts on the wake-up cycle.
To prove his claim, Fitsleep teamed up with the Sleep Research Center at Peking University to conduct experiments. They monitored sleep data for 800 children aged 15 to 80 for 60 days.
The results of the study showed that in the first 10 days, the sleep time of the subjects using the FitSleep α1 in the activated state and the closed state was the same on average. The proportion of time they spend in deep sleep and the quality scores of deep sleep are similar.
But that was before opening Alphapo. After this, FitSleep said that the subjects who started the Alpha wave function gradually reduced their sleep time, while the deep sleep time and sleep quality scores increased. In contrast, these parameters of the subjects who did not initiate the alpha wave function did not show significant differences.
People at FitSleep say this proves that Alpha Wave can effectively improve sleep. However, experts say this should be skeptical because the research report comes from within the company and has not been peer reviewed.
Mark Boulos, a neuroscientist at the University of Toronto, told Gizmag: "I don't know which research is supporting the use of Alpha waves to help people fall asleep." Neil Kline of the American Sleep Association also said that he "is technically feasible for those who show them." The data is unfamiliar."
Yao Wei said that this may be because FitSleep is the first to use Alpha waves on the sleep tracker.
