2. Abundant water sources Rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and groundwater that are not polluted generally can be used as aquaculture water. However, the concentration of salt in water must not exceed 0.1%. The most ideal source of water is both non-polluted surface water and underground hot spring water, and the water temperature can be freely adjusted. Sulfur-containing and fluorine-containing hot spring waters need to be diluted and mixed with other water sources and meet the fishery water standards before they can be used. It is best not to use groundwater and reservoir bottom water where conditions permit, and tap water can also be used to raise turtles.
3. Good water quality Water quality directly affects the success or failure of turtle farming. The main water quality indicators for turtles are:
(1) Water temperature 20-30°C is the growth temperature of the turtle. Feeding was stopped below 15°C and hibernated below 12°C. 28-30°C was the best growth temperature. According to studies, under the condition of water temperature of 28°C, the index of gaining weight of the turtle is the best. The total weight gain at 30°C was only 30.7% at 28°C; it hardly increased at 20°C; it was only 59.4% at 30°C at 34°C. The feed ratio was only 1.4% at 28°C. 25°C and 34°C require about 2.5.
(2) Dissolved oxygen turtles breathe in the lungs. Dissolved oxygen is not a limiting factor. However, the level of dissolved oxygen directly affects the feeding of turtles and the decomposition of excreta at the bottom of the pool. In the absence of oxygen, toxic gases such as nitrites, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia nitrogen, and methane can be produced, which directly harm the health of the turtle. General requirements for dissolved oxygen in water 3-4mg/L or more.
(3) PH (acidity) For turtles, the suitable pH range is 7.2-8.5. If it is low, you can use lime to adjust. The addition of 20g quick lime per cubic meter of water increases the pH by 0.5 and keeps the pH of the water unchanged for 3-5d.
(4) The requirement of ammonia nitrogen turtles for ammonia nitrogen is not clear (fish requirements are less than 25mg/L). In all the researchers' experiments, turtles can still grow normally when ammonia nitrogen (total nitrogen) reaches 6-10 mg/L. . Taking into account the long-term high concentration of ammonia poisoning effect, and the breeding environment temperature 30 °C, pH 7.2-8.5 conditions, ammonia nitrogen should not be greater than 4 mg / L.
The use of aquatic plants (Eichhornia crassipes, etc.) to preferentially absorb ammonia nitrogen can effectively reduce ammonia. 10-20 g/m3 of zeolite in the pond can also control the accumulation of ammonia. The most direct way is to exchange new water.
(5) Transparency (clear degree of water) The transparency requirement is 20-30cm.
4. Soil requirements Turtle ponds must maintain a stable water level, so subsoils are preferably clay or loam with good water retention and poor permeability. The upper layer of the subsoil is more ideal if there is a mixture of 15-20 cm thick silt and fine sand, which is conducive to turtle habitat and hibernation. However, the sand contained in the sediment should not be thick, otherwise it is easy to make the skin of the turtle wear and cause wound infection. At the same time, the sand is too large, the upper layer has poor water retention properties, and it is easy to leak water. Therefore, it is best to use the upper layer of soft clay or mud in the pond. Acidic soil or saline-alkali land should not be used to build turtle ponds. It is really necessary to build and must carry out soil improvement.
