A special somatic cell clone, burdock, was recently born at Zibo Xiaoheiniu Animal Husbandry Technology Co., Ltd., a high-tech achievement transformation base of Laiyang Agricultural College in Shandong Province. The black-breasted calf was genetically engineered to carry anti-mad cow disease. According to reports, this study not only obtained transgenic somatic cell cloned cattle against BSE, but also established a set of effective transgenic technology systems. Experts said that the anti-mad cow disease gene expression and disease resistance of the burdock remains to be further tested and verified.
