Now, researchers have tried to cover the electrode with a layer of hydrogel coating to reduce the friction between the electrode and the brain tissue, making the surface softer and reducing the formation of scar tissue. The substrate of the hydrogel material selected by the researchers was polyethylene glycol dimethyl (PEG-DMA). The coating is designed to have similar elasticity to brain tissue, and researchers can artificially control the thickness of the coating.
