The era when doctors check their bodies with smart glasses seems to be getting closer and closer to us. San Francisco wearable technology startup Augmedix recently received $3.2 million in investment from investment funds DCM and Emergence Capital Partners.
Augmedix is developing clinical applications for Google Glass and working with doctors across the United States to recommend them to Google Glass with these applications.
Google glasses equipped with clinical applications are of great benefit to doctors: it almost liberates the hands, the doctor does not appear awkward when wearing the treatment, can easily access information about new drugs or medical records, and can also use Google glasses to take pictures, record consultations Or video during surgery.
Augmedix CEO Ian Shakil said the patients were not disgusted with the doctor wearing Google glasses. Augmedix surveyed hospitals and clinics across the country, and only about 1% of patients want doctors to take Google Glass.
Shaker said in an interview this week that the purpose of developing these applications is to help doctors build and retrieve electronic medical records more easily. He also said that doctors spend 1/3 of their working time on electronic medical records every day, which directly affects doctor-patient communication.
Next, Augmedix hopes to collaborate with major electronic medical record providers such as Practice Fusion, Epic and Cerner. Shaker said that a cooperation agreement has been reached with several providers, but it is not yet easy to announce.
The Augmedix technical team is developing a machine learning software that records and generates structured data as doctors communicate with patients. Through the Augmedix application, Google Glass automatically detects the most important parts of the conversation and then enters relevant information directly into the patient's electronic medical record.
Shaker said that this experience is similar to the Siri voice assistant in Apple's iPhone, and doctors can also issue commands to Google Glass for more information. For example: "Okay. Glasses, tell me the patient's blood pressure record for the past three times."
