Prevent yak diarrhea

Yak diarrhea is an intestinal infectious disease of newborn yak accompanied by a series of severe pathological reactions. The disease is commonly found in yak of 2 to 7 days of age and has a rapid onset, short duration, and high mortality rate. With the increase, the incidence rate has been significantly reduced, and calves over 20 days are basically not susceptible to the disease.

First, clinical symptoms

In the early stage of disease, the diseased cattle are only auricular, yellow-white, and smelly feces. With the development of the disease, body temperature can be as high as 40 °C ~ 42 °C, sick cattle spirit depression, hi lying, loss of appetite or waste, nasal dryness, pulse of 100 to 120 times per minute, breathing 60 to 110 times per minute, breathing Thick sound, individual cattle nasal discharge purulent nasal discharge, lung auscultation dry rales, dry cough; discharge yellow-green blood clots, blood-like jelly-like or watery stool, fecal odor. At the later stage of disease, the diseased cow's eyeball subsides, the skin lacks elasticity, and eventually died of dehydration.

Second, the cause of the disease

Yak diarrhea is classified into indigestion and infectious diarrhea. The pathogens of infectious diarrhea include Escherichia coli, paratyphoid salmonella paratyphi, coccidia, and yak virus diarrhea (rotavirus and coronavirus infections).

Third, prevention and treatment

Strengthen the feeding and management of newborn calves and pay attention to the environment and food hygiene.

The colostrum is fed within one hour of the calf's birth to allow the calf to obtain maternal antibodies in time and improve its own disease resistance.

Breast milk must be of good quality and avoid contamination. The breasts of lactating cows should be cleaned.

In summer, yak pens should pay attention to ventilation, winter should avoid the thief wind invasion, to ensure that the yak clean and regular disinfection.

The diseased cattle were found to be treated in isolation.

In the high-risk period of the disease, all newborn calves should be given drug prevention. Adding antibiotics from the first lactation of newborn yaks, and even serving them for 3 days, can significantly reduce the incidence rate.

In clinical cases, gentamicin, norfloxacin, sulfadiazine, kanamycin sulfate and other drugs were used to treat the disease.

Rehydration should be timely. When the dehydration is light, it can be taken as an oral solution. The formula is glucose 20g, sodium chloride 3.5g, potassium chloride 1.5g, sodium bicarbonate 2.5g, water 1000ml. The amount of fluid to be rehydrated depends on the degree of dehydration of the organism, generally Between 1000 and 1500 ml. When the dehydration is severe, infusion is required. The prescription is (one intravenous injection): 500 ml glucose physiological saline, 300 to 500 ml of compound sodium chloride solution, 200 to 300 ml of 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, and 5.0 ml of 10% sodium bicarbonate. Mild illness once, weighing 2 or 3 times.
